Red Dog International (RDI) of Amarillo, TX, manufactures and markets the only aboveground mobile tornado shelters available for industrial work crews. RDI safe rooms and shelters are designed and certified to meet or exceed every existing US tornado safety standard for occupant protection from EF-5 tornados. They also protect occupants against short duration fire asphyxiation, transient poisonous gas hazards, armed assaults and explosive blast over-pressures and winds.
Features include the ability to adjust ventilation ports to be "air-tight" when needed. In this configuration sufficient volume of breathing air is contained inside (without the need for pressurized air cylinders) to provide short-duration (30 minutes or less) emergency refuge from fast-moving prairie fires. The redundant emergency lighting system is solar-powered to ensure batteries remain charged and active in case of storms or other emergencies. First-aid kits are mounted inside each shelter. Surfaces are primed for rust resistance and top coated with high-reflectivity paint to minimize solar heat gain. These vessels are explosive blast resistant and can be fabricated for up to 20 psig positive and 25 inches Hg negative pressures. They are vandal proof, snake proof and rodent proof.
